Compositions 18 & 19 (Forest & Environment)

Forests are the lungs of the earth. Destruction of the world's forests mounts to death of the world we currently know.' To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Forest are the lungs of the earth because they purify the air. They absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen. We breathe fresh air because the forests clean the air. But the forest cover is getting depleted day by day. Man is cutting down forests to fulfill his needs.

Due to increasing population and industrialization the demand for wood is always increasing. More houses and more houses have to be built.

The people living in the villages and in the remote areas in developing countries still depend upon wood to meet their requirement for fuel for cooking purpose.

The anti-social elements in convenience with the officials cut down the trees illegally and sell the wood.
The forests are useful to us in may ways. The forests are the homes of wild animals. The forest gives us valuable products like medicine, gum, soft wood for making paper, and so on.

The forests attract rain. As the air above the forests is cool, the water vapour above the forests condenses and there is rainfall. Clouds passing over the forests get condenses and there is rainfall.

The forests conserve the soil by preventing it from erosion. The trees and plants hold the soil together.
It takes millions of years to build up forests. It is the natural wealth of a nation as well as the world. The destruction of the forest will disturb the ecological balance of the world.

Damage to the environment is an inevitable consequence of worldwide improvements in the standard of living. Do you agree or disagree. Give reasons.

Environmental preservation is a burning issue. It is rapidly deteriorating due to pollution. Man is very much concerned about its preservation. Rapid technological progress has led to rapid industrialization. Industrialization has made man’s life comfortable and raised the standard of living. A nation’s progress is judged by the extent of its industrialization.

The most serious cause of pollution is industries. Many towns are chocking with industrial pollution cold countries smog is formed early in the morning and in the night. The smoke that comes out of the chimney of the factories is poisonous as it consists of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. When these gases comes with fog, smog is formed which remains trapped in the lower layers of the atmosphere. Anyone who inhales smog dies instantly.

The industries discharge harmful chemicals into rivers, which finally reach the sea. This destroys aquatic and marine life. They dump their solid waste on land, which pollutes the soil and the undergoing water.
The rising level of carbon dioxide is damaging the ozone layer, which protects us from the harmful violet rays of the sun.

Due to improvement in transportation and increase in population vehicular traffic is increasing day by day. This is also asking to their air pollution in towns and cities. Besides it is also increasing the noise pollution.
People who work on machines are also exposed to loud noise, which impairs their hearing.

The advanced countries depend on nuclear power plants for electrification. As these countries are heavily industrialized and as three-fourths of the population lives in the urban areas there is an every-increasing demand for more power. These powers plants dump the nuclear waste in the ocean beds or deep in the land.

Hence we can see that man is paying a heavy price for scientific progress and improvements in the standard of living. The very world he is living in is endangered by the progress made by man in various spheres. He must keep the situation in control before things get out of control.
