Education Essay

We can be educated in many ways. Though much education happens in a classroom, we are also educated in our daily life through doing activities and listening to our friends and our family memories. Which is a better way to learn; in a classroom with a teacher, or outside a classroom by doing things? Support your answer with examples and details.

Children learn best by observing the behavior of adults and copying it. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement.

The education imparted in classrooms is formal and limited to books. A child doesn’t gain practical knowledge and experience, which can be useful to him in his daily life. Education cannot be confined to the four walls and there is much that a child learns through doing things at home.

The best lessons are learn from life itself. A child can learn a great deal by performing daily activities like cleaning, washing, shopping, gardening, and many more. He is able to apply the knowledge he receives in the classrooms. By receiving and answering phone calls, traveling, talking to neighbors, and interacting with friends and family members he learns useful skills like communicative skills, body language, how to understand human nature, how to control emotions and so on. He also learns values like sharing, caring, understanding other’s problems, adjusting to people and circumstances. Education is a life long process and it goes on even outside classrooms. The children continue to learn through their daily experiences.

From the moment a child is one year old, he learns to speak, to walk and to do things by observing his family members. Children learn by imitating other’s action. They copy others’ manners, ways of speaking, behaving, working and interacting with others. They pick up good habits and bad habits from the elders at home.

Little children like to imitate others and play roles like doctor, teacher, papa, mummy, shopkeeper etc. These games have educative values and prepare them for their future role in life. The adults in the family should be examples to their children.

On the other hand the education received in schools is formal and it is essential to build up the foundation of the child. It is helpful to him when he has when he has to choose a career.
The educational institutions provide an environment to the children where they learn to study together, play together, make-friends, develop team spirit, share their feelings with friends, learn to control their emotions and socialize.

The schools and colleges organize many extra curricular activities which promote community feeling, competitiveness, sportsmanship and leadership qualities.

I personally feel that classroom teaching is irreplaceable and an essential part of ones education. The schools and higher educational institutions can include more practical subjects like manners, interpersonal skills, social skills, how to control emotions, time management and so on, so that one is not only successful in ones career but also in ones life.

The elders must set up a good example to them. They must not have double standards. They cannot misbehave and use abusive language and than expect the children to behave properly. If the parents smoke or chew tobacco it is very likely that their children will do the same. If the parents are very fond of watching television the children too get addicted to television. They than cannot expect the children to devote proper attention to their studies. If the parents are short tempered than the children too become short tempered. Sometimes the children turn out to be the exact copy of elders like their father or mother in manner of talking, walking and thinking.
