Compositions 12 & 13 (Parents role & positive women)

The position of women in society has changed markedly in the last twenty years. Many of the problems young people now experience, such as juvenile delinquency arises from the fact that many married women now work and are not at home to care for their children.

The position of women has changed remarkably in the last few years in most countries of the world. Women now are treated equally and given equal opportunities. Due to the rising cost of living and the high standard of living it has become necessary for women to step out of their houses and take up jobs. They have their own career, goals, ambition and social status.

There is no doubt that it is a tough job to balance home and career together. They find it tough to manage home and children both. Often they cannot attend to all the requirements of their children. As they are out of the house most of the time they cannot keep track of the children’s activities. They have no time to discipline them and teach them all the good things of life. Children take advantage of their mothers’ absence from the house. This problem is more in nuclear families where the children are left in the care of baby sitters or governesses.

Children spend most of the time watching poor quality television serials and films. Parents are often not aware of what they are up to until it is too late. There is no one to tell them that what they are doing is wrong. The children imitate what they see in serials and films and commit crimes. Often the root cause of juvenile delinquency is psychological.

Grandparents should stay with them. Many families in India are switching over to joint family system for the benefit of the children. In a joint family there are more elders and the children are not neglected. They receive more love and care.

Women nowadays can’t give up working. Hence either the mother or the father should find sufficient time to take care of their children. Fathers can be good mothers. They should find time for the children if the mother is not able to find time. The mothers must adjust their career goals with their family responsibilities in the interest of their children. They can take up part time jobs or lessen their working hours. After all the mother is working for the benefit of her children. It is better to miss out on a few amenities rather then risk the children’s future well being. The needs of the children cannot be ignored.

Either father or mother should sacrifice career goals. Whose role is more important in bringing up children?

Bringing up children is a challenging task. They always need the care of their parents in every respect: education, food, clothing and entertainment. Their emotional needs have to be met. Their emotional and intellectual development need constant supervision. The role of both the parents is very important in the child’s life. Each has a definite role to play in the children’s lives.
The role and status of women has changed. They have started stepping out of their house and taking up jobs. As a result managing the house, children and career is a difficult task. The emotional and psychological needs of children are sometimes neglected.
it is no doubt true that only a woman can have true motherly feelings. However in this present age people are now opting for nuclear families or where the womenfolk too have started working outside homes, the fathers should come forward and play a greater role in bringing up children. Their contribution should be more. They should be ready to switch roles, spend more hours at home and attend to the needs of the children.
Since mothers are by nature more soft, loving and patient they are. naturally the best choice but one often hears of instances where fathers are better at mothering.
Either of the parents has to find time for their children so that they don’t get neglected. One of them has to decide who will devote more time in taking care of the children. If the mother has a better career than the father will have to do more mothering.
